BMCRC / MRO - Brands Indy - March 7/8 Kennaugh has British Supersport title in his sights
Perhaps you wont be surprised to learn the fastest lap of the showery & blustery weekend at Brands was set by Hudson Kennaugh on the Linxcel-Seton Tuning Yamaha R6. Using the Bemsee race meeting as a shakedown before the BSB circus arrives in Kent in April, the South African powered round the tight Indy circuit in a blistering 47.76 secs, just over half a second outside the lap record. When he told me he intends to win the British Supersport title this year, you've got to believe he has a good chance of so doing.
Kennaugh competed in the Morello Roofing Powerbike series, being kept honest by Peter Baker on his Suzuki GSXR1000, lapping at 48secs during the Sunday morning race. Ross Walter had a terrific weekend, out qualifying Hudson on Saturday to take pole, and then closing a large gap in the wet second race, to be just held off by Baker. Kennaugh pulled in after lap 1 of that one, but reappeared at the end of the afternoon, to come second to Baker, with Barry Chapman taking third on his R1, on a drying track.
Walter also put in some quick laps in the Jordan M/Cs Supersport 600 races. He was pipped by Max Hunt by 0.1secs in the first race, but his best lap of 48.1 secs was one of the fastest of the weekend. Assuming he is doing the British Supersport championship this year, Walter could be a threat on the Interserve Triumph 675 , especially as he is quick in the wet.
Max Hunt had a consistently quick meeting on the RaceLab R6. As well as beating Walter on Saturday, he was winning races in the StockSport 600 championship, beating Linxcel-Seton Tunings Nick Clarke by 0.04 secs in a really superclose one. Jay Fernandez took two podiums on Sunday, and Ashley Midwood won the race on Saturday .
Gary Budgen beat Simon Peyto by half a sec in both Bumpstop.co.uk Thunderbike races on Sat. Peyto took revenge by winning both Sunday races, the first by 0.3secs from Phil Read on the gorgeous Vyrus. There were some super close races in the Minitwins series, with Glynn Davies winning by 0.1 secs from Dan Hopkins, then being beaten by the same margin by Adam Molloy later on. Davies then won the last race, with Russell Joyner in 2nd, and Adam Molloy just holding off Andrew Pipe for third.
