LOWES ON A HIGH AT CADWELL PARK FOR CO-ORDIT HONDA 31-08-09 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Cup championship
Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Cup championship leader, Sam Lowes made the switch to Team Co-ordit for the remainder of the 2009 season, scoring the team's debut race victory this year at a sun-soaked Cadwell Park (31 August).
The 18 year old from Lincoln, making his debut appearance onboard the 118 yellow liveried Team Co-ordit Honda, put in arguably one of the performances of the day as he ran at the sharp end of the 16-lap Supersport race round the technically demanding Lincolnshire circuit.
Making a blistering start from the front of row three, Lowes was immediately up inside the top six, battling with the vastly experienced TT winner Ian Hutchinson, Dan Linfoot and AJ Venter for fourth. The quartet swapped places throughout the race before Venter made the break to claim fourth. Lowes continued to pile the pressure on Linfoot, impressing the crowd and his new team with his dogged determination and smooth riding style.
Lowes took the chequered flag in sixth, gaining 10 points, but more importantly adding another Cup victory and 25 points to his season's tally to move further ahead of the chasing Robbie Brown and Dean Hipwell.
For once, Richard Cooper had to step out of the limelight and take a back seat. The 26 year old suffered all weekend from the affects of a virus picked up earlier in the week. Nevertheless, Cooper battled through from his grid position of 8th to cross the line in sixth, closing the gap to Steve Brogan and that all-important runner up spot in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 championship.
Boosted by the support of a home crowd, Bruce Wilson put in his best performance of the
season to date onboard the Team Co-ordit/SorryMate.com Yamaha to finish just outside of the points in 19th.
Round 10 of the 2009 MCE British Superbike Championship heads to Croft in North Yorkshire over the weekend of 11-13 September, where the Bruntingthorpe-based team will look to add more points and race wins to its season's total.
However, ahead of Round 10, Team owner Pete Bradshaw has seen both Lowes and Cooper rewarded for their efforts this season with a double call-up to World Superbike duty this coming weekend at Nürburgring. Richard Cooper will reignite his relationship with BMW with the chance of a lifetime as he slips into the boots of Ruben Xaus, as teammate to Troy Corser in the Superbike class.
Richard Cooper: "Cadwell has been a difficult weekend for me as I've been suffering from a virus, so to finish in sixth and bring home some points was not too bad. With three rounds left, there's still a good chance to catch Brogan for second. It was a bit of a surprise to get the call, but this is a fantastic opportunity and I'm relishing the chance to making my debut in World Superbikes for BMW this weekend, before concentrating on the final three Superstock rounds."
Pete Bradshaw: "A great weekend for the team with our new rider, Sam Lowes, who joins us for the remainder of the season, winning the Cup race and team award. Sam has fitted in well and I'm confident that Team Co-ordit can assist him with the necessary support for him to claim the title. After picking up a virus, Richard Cooper had a mountain to climb and he didn't look himself in practice and qualifying but saved himself for the race and put in his best times to secure ten valuable championship points to close the gap on second place. Pre-race, the team took part in the CJ Riders Fund charity cycle race all in 118 118 outfits that were kindly donated by the telephone directory enquiry company. With the solid results, and excellent media coverage for 118, we'll look to close the season a high so that we can continue into
the 2010 season. Both Sam and Richard have been called up to WSB duty this coming weekend, so it's fantastic that the calibre of our riders has been rewarded and we wish them well."
