Supersport R10 Croft

Fuchs Silkolene British Supersport Championship Round 10 Croft 13-09-09

This was the race of the year so welcome back Croft to the BSB calendar. We cant afford to lose circuits for whatever reason - be it complaints from local residents about noise or safety concerns for the riders. This is the only decent track in the North East, it also just happens to be one of the best in the country with some really high speed sweepers and chicanes along with two hairpins and the tricky complex section. Normal racing practice would deem the heavy braking area into Tower and the hairpin to be the main places to attack, but such was the ferocity of competition in the race, that we had two riders side by side going through the high speed sweepers. It was spectacular racing with Ben Wilson shining on the Gearlink Kawasaki, never holding back when he could attack at full lean, his knees at risk of being mangled by the wheels of the bike at his side more than once.

The title race is between Mcconnell (Raceways Yamaha) and Plater (HM Plant Honda), with Westmoreland (MAP Triumph) and Wilson battling for third. These four were the contenders for the race win, with Westy blazing a trail on the Triumph Daytona. Mcconnell was dicing with Wilson at the front throughout, while Plater got lucky with a pace car bringing him back into play. He'd gone with the hard tyre which had dropped him back into the pack in the early laps, but came to him, allowing him to get faster as the race progressed. He capitalized on his slice of luck and timed his move to the front to perfection, hitting the front and gapping Skippy by just enough on the last lap to make a last turn lunge impossible.

Plater now leads Mcconnell by 7 points with two races remaining.
